Purpose: The focus of the learning in this Knowledge Unit is to build an understanding of the concepts of promoting the health, safety, and well-being of children.

What you will learn:

  • KM-06-KT01: Health and nutritional needs of children and pregnant women 
    • Age-appropriate approaches to health needs of children and pregnant women.
    • Age-appropriate approaches to nutritional needs of children and pregnant women.
    • Nutrition and menu planning which are sensitive to children's needs
  • KM-06-KT02: Interventions to promote the health, nutrition, safety, protection and well-being of children.
    • Integrated management and control of childhood illnesses.
    • Roles and responsibilities of practitioners and agencies in promoting child health, safety, well-being and interventions.
    • Hygiene and universal precautions.
    • Dealing with health, safety and emergency situations
    • Childhood trauma and distress.

Overview:

This programme has been aligned to registered unit standards. You will be assessed against the outcomes of the unit standards by completing a knowledge assignment that covers the essential embedded knowledge stipulated in the unit standards. When you are assessed as competent against the unit standards, you will receive a certificate of competence and be awarded 6 credits towards a National Qualification.
