The candidates found competent in this learning unit will have acquired a range of essential skills and capacities necessary for the saving of lives through the dedicated application of rescue breathing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The unit is focused, among other things, on providing a critical role for the coach who in the course of their duties might be expected to respond and perform this service. Improvements in performance in the competencies necessary for effective resuscitation can be expected to enhance the quality of service offered by coaches who will function in support of any available professional rescuers.

  • Describe the structures and functions of the circulatory, respiratory, skeletal and nervous systems as they impact on resuscitation methods.
